Contact 24/7 Crisis Line
Intervener's listen to survivor's concerns. Intervener's discuss options for seeking medical attention and/or contacting law enforcement. Intervener's offer the option of having a volunteer meet them at the hospital.
Attend the Hospital
When a survivor presents themselves at the hospital, indicating they have been sexually assaulted, the triage nurse will:
- document time and date of sexual assault, any injuries and vital signs.
- contact the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). A SANE nurse will contact the crisis line to ask for a volunteer to join the survivor at the hospital.
At the hospital, the survivor has 3 options:
- Survivor chooses to report to law enforcement and have evidence collected.
- Survivor chooses to have medical treatment only and does not want law enforcement notified.
- Survivor chooses to have evidence collected and does not want law enforcement notified.
Visit the police station
Officer ensures the safety of the victim, including assessing for emergency needs. If there is emergency medical needs, the dispatch or responding officer arranges transportation to the hospital with the survivor's consent. Upon arrival at the hospital, the survivor has the same options as described above under ''Attend the Hospital''
If there is no emergency medical need, the responding officer will interview the victim to determine what occurred. They will explain their role and the reporting/investigation process
